True Live at the Corner

My review of True Live and Paris Wells’ gig at the Corner Hotel on Friday night is up now on FasterLouder.

I say “my review”, but in fact the piece is severely edited. I’m not all that surprised in a way. I realise that I was not exactly kind about True Live’s performance. But I also feel like in the original draft I was quite clear about why. My experience three years previously had set my expectations pretty high. I had every intention of having a great night, but I just didn’t think they cut the mustard. That was why the (albeit slightly unsual) personal and narrative form of the review was so important.

The version of the review that made it online has far less flow than the original and as a result makes me come across as a far less sympathetic reviewer, which is obviously disappointing.

For the unedited revew click here. In the meantime, perhaps I’ll send an email the editor’s way and see what’s up. Or more likely I’ll just get over it.
